Examining online images of coronavirus, they reminded me of dust balls stuck with pins. I’d already created some dust bunnies for my blog using the stomach contents of my vacuum cleaner, Orca.

So, I decided to create my own dust and pin version of Covid-19.

This photo is more sinister, like an alien from a 1960’s episode of Dr Who.

I was having trouble deciding what to paint for my second Coronavirus Mini-Canvas Challenge and how I could incorporate my dust-pin-ball coronavirus into the challenge.

Around this time, I accidentally recorded the end of the children’s movie CJ7 when it screened on free-to-air TV. As I watched the *SPOILER ALERT* ending of CJ7 where hundreds of cute alien creatures come trooping over a bridge, I knew I had to watch the whole movie from beginning to end online. I didn’t regret my decision.

The covid-19 virus has an uncanny valley effect of appearing like an alien species that has invaded Earth.

Inspired by the unbearable cuteness of CJ7, I decided to abandon the dust-pin-ball coronavirus idea for my second mini-canvas, and anthropomorphise and cutify Covid-19 instead.

This is the evolution of Covy.

This is Covy finished.

For the next paintings in my Coronavirus Mini-Canvas Challenge, I’m continuing to anthropomorphise and cutify Covid-19 by creating a series of fraternal coronavirus sextuplets, called the Corona Bunch. My hope is the coronavirus lockdown will be finished before the Corona Bunch increases to octuplets, nonuplets or even decatuplets.
